Main Gear Actuator

My main gear actuator just started leaking hydraulic fluid at the rear end. I plan to overhaul it (with the help of my IA). I have studied the MM including the breakdown of the actuator in the MA Appendix and it does not look too difficult. But would appreciate any advice from those of you who have done it. i know sometimes things that do not look "too difficult" end up with unexpected issues.

Min Gear Actuator

Forgot to specify that I have a 337A so I have the single large actuator instead of the smaller dual actuators on the later model airplanes.

Main Gear Actuator

I posted this message two weeks ago and have not had any response. It is difficult to believe that no one on this forum has ever had a problem with the main gear actuator on any of the early model 337 aircraft. I also searched the archive for information and found nothing. This seems impossible.

Main Gear Actuator

Update: Discovered the part number of one of the parts in the actuator is the wrong part number in the IPC. Cessna tech support was able to find the engineering drawings and identify the correct part number. The part in question is index number 23 on drawing number 120 in the IPC for a 1966A model 337. The wrong part number in the IPC is MS28778-4. It is an O-Ring that the book calls "Packing". The correct part number is MS28778-015 and I was able to get it from Aircraft Spruce.

Main Gear Actuator

I discovered it the hard way. I ordered the parts I needed for the actuator but when they arrived one of them was about half the size of the one removed from my actuator. Cessna "piston team tech support" was awesome. They got back to me within 24 hours with the correct information. Their phone number is 316-517-1700

That is amazing. I did not think there would be any chance at all of getting tech support on our old 337's from Cessna. Thanks again and I'm glad you had that success.
