Thank You

That was helpful, many thanks, you said in your post...

"The 336 is quite a different airplane than the 337. Cessna made many changes to the 337 based on that first few years of testing the 336"

If you have a document describing the differences I'd love to see it. Is there something structurally wrong with the 336? Based on reading some of the posts here, not sure if this is correct, but it sounds as if the sight picture in cruise is higher than the 337. According to the information I've seen, the 336 has the ability to get in and out of my home field at std day gross with room to spare, while carrying the desired payload and possessing the desired range with twin engine safety.

Looks like 37 total accidents/incidents for the 336, 12 of them fatal. I think there were 195 336's produced. Also there doesn't appear to be any of them for sale currently.

Here's some good reading for you. I forgot I was going to attach this earlier.

Given the circumstances in the light twin aircraft sales, a 337 is lower than I have seen them in many years. Just be careful you understand the complexity of owning a Cessna Twin Engine airplane. It is not a 182, it requires more attention to everything. Granted a 336 might be simpler but Cessna only built them one year for a reason. Be very cautious of "REALLY CHEAP" priced Skymasters. There may be many skeletons in the closet of some low cost Skymasters out there. You will be much better off buying something that has been used frequently rather than something that hasn't been flown for years (they are out there). It sounds like you are operating from a short field so a STOL kit would be valuable. However you proceed make sure you have a thorough pre-buy inspection by a qualified Skymaster mechanic.

This thread will provide much more info about owning and buying a Skymaster
