Canadian Overflight
 
This is not exactly a Skymaster question but thought some of you (MI guys) might know.

Do any of you have knowledge of the regs regarding Canadian Overflight? I am planning a flight to Niagara Falls and would save a boatload of time to fly direct, which would take me over Canadian airspace.

I have reviewed AOPA and it appears to be no problem (IFR Flight)but they throw in these caveats "all other ICAO regulations apply".

File an IFR flight plan, you will cross Canadian airpspace, but you will be talking to US controllers. Erie and Cleveland, I think.
You can see from my flight track, that's what I did.
I was going from BUF to AZO.

No problem, do it all the time. Just file instruments and fly just like you were in the US and A. Here is my flight plan from State College to Riverview. Larry had to show his so he's mine :)

I wouldn't risk flying thru Canada. Watch the movie Canadian bacon, and you'll know why too.

Just to be clear - file IFR ,fly over Canadian space with out any landing in Canada ,and there is no US customs/border involvement. Would be a help to me to hop over Erie and some Canadian in going to some of Michigan past Detroit.

here's the deal. File an IFR flight plan, originating at a US airport. Then fly over CANADA, do NOT land in Canada. Land on US airport. No customs, no TSA, no border patrol, no MIB posing as border patrol.

Don't have to actually originate at a controlled airport, either, that makes it even simpler.

My flight looks to match yours (above). Des Moines to Niagara. I'm hoping local control allows some sight seeing over Niagara on approach.

On the Canadian side is NK80, a restricted area, something to watch out for.
