It just occurred to me that the only real failure I have ever had was at 15,000 with just me and 1/2 fuel. I secured the engine and motored on to my destination (about 150 miles over mountains, no suitable field in between) with no undue effort.

Ok, so curiosity wants to know what happened to the motor... and which one! And also curious if you remember power settings to maintain??

The front engine failed due to turbocharger coming completely apart (inside it's case) and spraying metal into the rest of the engine. Failure was not complete, but it was surging really badly, so I secured it.
I normally cruise at 65% power and 2400 RPM. It took about 80% power and 2500 RPM to maintain pressurization and altitude on the rear, as I recall. But it is a lot of years back now. All I really remember is that I had to run it above 75% power settings, but not at full power. I was really glad to be in Skymaster that day. Kevin |
