Radar

Has anybody added or upgraded their on board radar to the Garmin GWX8000?

I have now been flying my P337 for a year and sure do miss radar. NEXRAD is great for the big picture, and I’m not brave around convective activity, but radar adds more information which is good thing.
Any idea of cost of installation?
I have a radar pod sitting in the hangar that the previous owner removed.

Thx

Greg

Just going through some old posts (I’m new to this aircraft and this forum) and came across your question about the pod. I’ve got a 77 P337G that has the pod and still has the old Bendix RDR 160 inside. It’s fed to an Avidyne MFD and works great. This was something a previous owner added back around 2015. I’m sure you can find plenty of those older units around to include some used Avidyne MFD’s. Pretty low cost solution if you already have the pod. My Avidyne TAS 610 goes to the same MFD as the radar. My problem is I have two GTN 650’s plus the large MFD, 340 and 335es, filling up the stack. I want to trade one 650 for a larger screen 750. I can hardly use the little 650 screens. I haven’t confirmed if the Bendix rdr160 will interface with the 750. If it does, I’m good to go. Just have to remote the audio and xponder.

Thanks for the info.
I’m not familiar with the RDR 160. I did have an RDR 2000 in one plane , and I did find a new Garmin 75 color radar worked much better for me.
It sounds like the new GWX8000 is really nice with auto features, etc.

But just might be too cost prohibitive
