337 Training in UK
There are about half a dozen FAA Instructors in the UK. If anyone needs a BFR, IPC or just some local area familiarisation training whilst in the UK, call on 07802 902 535. I would be pleased to help out or pass you contact details for one of the other Instructors.
Rules over here are a little different, - class A starts at 2500 feet! Mode S compulsory for IFR flights from next April. A 337 is available for hire to experienced pilots. As far as flight training is concerned the new security rules are that if you are a US citizen no issue, but if you are an alien, the new security rules require a photograph and fingerprints and prior approval from the Department of Homeland Security, from 20 October. The Department of Homeland Security Docket 49 CFR 1552 applies. Previously this only applied to flight schools and training over 12500lb, bit it now applies to every FAA certified flight instructor worlwide, with any weight of aircraft - ouch. The good news is that for recurrant training the Instructor can digitally download a photo, and other details, to a special web site and then as category 4 you can fly, but if you dont have a licence and are looking for say a complex endorsement its fingerprints as well. Apparently these new rules were issued without the normal prior consultation, judging from the replies on the web site there are quite a few people in the US, and AOPA, who think its a bit over the top! Interested to know what other people think! Humphrey Penney |
