What Engine Oil to use????

We run a 1967 337 with IO-360's

We are using Aero Shell W-100

What are others using???
Is one oil better than another??????
A cold day here is 40 degrees and a hot day is 85 degrees

I have used Pillips X/C for 25 years. It has always worked great for me. The rear engine had 2300 hrs on it and still running when I replaced it 6 years ago.

Frank, I have the same engines. I use AeroShell 110W 9 months of the year and 15w-50 for 3-4 months in the winter. Our temps are muich harsher than yours in the winter. I'd like to use 100 year round but decided it was too hard on the engine. With no temps below 40 you can most likely use it use it year round.

Since you and I almost share the same weather environment, I'm sure you'd find Aeroshell 100-50 to be just fine year round. As a regular routine, but especially in the colder months, I always pull the props through to limber things up... makes it easier on the starter. BTW, I am told that the 100-50 provides better protection than the multi-grade.

Hi guys,
I have used 100w Aeroshell in summer and 50w Aeroshell in winter here in Pennsylvania. It gets well below zero many days in winter here, while summer gets in the 80-90's. I also pre-heat the plane in winter once it gets to freezing. I put ceramic heaters and blankets on 337 the night before I fly, so it is nice and warm the next day. I also use a torpedo 25,000 BTU heater to warm hanger and plane when I get to hanger, so interior is also warm.

Been useing Aero Shell 15w 50 for a decade plus (except when they had there contamination problem). I have the Tanis engine heaters and I cover the cowls with old quilts during the winter season. I also have a small ceramic heater I place inside the cabin for a few hours before I go flying. With out that small heater the control wheel is so darn cold its difficult to hold with out gloves. That heater also makes all the instruments, radios, and gages etc. work fine. guy, the old 72 driver....

I have been using Phillips XC in my 67 Skymaster year round here in South Carolina for 25 years with great results. Always made TBO on my IO-360's and have 2300 hours on front engine now. Oil and filter changes at 50 hours.

I have been using the new Exxon oil for the last 3 years, and love the stuff! Much less oil consumption, too.

Like a lot of folks, I use Aeroshell w100, but at the last oil change went to w100 plus. Supposed to be better for rust protection.
