Unhappy Boots for '73 P337

I recently purchased an early 1973 P337 w/ full de-ice but worn out boots. In the process of replacing the boots I have discovered that the first 40 or so 1973 P337's were certified with a boot system involving 2 piece boots on each wing. All later 337's w/ boots had a single piece boot on each wing. In addition, someone in the past replaced the 2 piece boots with the more common 1 piece boot but it was done in Europe w/o FAA blessing. Any help would be appreciated, especially if someone has obtained field approval in the past for the one piece boot replacement.

Hello,

I am getting ready to replace the boots on my '73P. I have the two-piece boots now. Did you find that the one-piece was less expensive or will it be difficult to convert back to the original configuration?

Boots.

Doc Keller at Bootes Edge in Oklahoma City should be able to help you. They are very competively priced regarding replacing your boots. Their website is www.bootsedge.com.

Boots for '73 P337

David,

The 2 piece boots are more expensive than the one piece. Some of the two piece parts are also not in stock and will be a 3 month wait. Putting on the one piece is the better answer if we can work through the approval process.

I have spent lots of time talking to everyone I can think of about the boot issue. The best info I have found is that the dual boots actually work somewhat better and were being used when Cessna was thinking about getting the plane certified for flight into known icing. However, that was ultimately dropped and the single boots were cheaper for Cessna as well as for operators. I have decided to simply get the dual boots and hook the extra line up again.
