Exclamation Rockport, Texas Fly-In - THIS WEEKEND! - DEC 5th!

Rockport, TX (Aransas County Airport - KRKP) is hosting its first ever FLY-IN WEEKEND!

There will be at least FIVE Skymasters present, with our own parking area "up front" according to the organizer Cody Stewart.

Enterprise will deliver rental cars in advance, and allow you to leave them at the airport.

The County Commission voted to lower the price for avgas to $3.20 for the weekend!

There will be a car show, new RV's and campers on display, a P-51, and a T6 Texan giving rides from the Commemorative Air Force! Plus a concert Saturday night.

Hampton Inn has offered us a special rate of only $81 per night, which is a good deal. Priceline wants $93 for the same hotel.

Overnight camping on the airport is both permitted and welcomed!

Uber is available in the area if you don't want to mess with a car.

Some of the best seafood restaurants and deep-sea fishing in the country.

For more details, visit their Facebook page or listing on AOPA's calendar.

Hope to see you there!

I guess now I have to go try to clean up my plane some before Saturday. Do you know where we are to park exactly or do I just look for the other Skymasters and park next to them?

My number is 936-494-5596 if anyone needs to contact me.

Thanks,

Tripp

The organizer is Cody Stewart. His # is 361-229-0857. He runs the flight school there. He mentioned something about parking on grass, but "in the front". Not sure where exactly that would be, but he was going to put the 337s together.

I understand about the clean-up! I'll need to bring towels to clean up my oil leaks

Airnav listing, with airport diagram (This airport was originally a WWII training base): https://www.airnav.com/airport/KRKP I love over-water approaches!

Sunday departures

So, not a 337 owner but am really building interest for sure. I can’t make it Saturday because of family commitments but if I can make it out of the house will folks still be around Sunday morning that may be interested in talking about their plane and showing me the ins and outs? Particularly if there are any P337’s out there. I’ve been able to sit in an O2 but that’s my only real exposure and just haven’t been able to connect yet with those who have offered to meet up.

I plan to leave Sunday afternoon, but I may be out fishing when you arrive. My P337 will be there though!

The weather tomorrow isn’t looking so great in Rockport now. We’re going to watch it and see, but if it’s going to rain most of the day, we may hold off and come in Sunday morning instead for a few hours.
Anyone else modifying their plans yet?

weather

Yes, I'm concerned about Saturday afternoon and evening. Weatherman calling for rain Saturday afternoon through early a.m. Sunday, then crystal clear.

Really puts a damper on things. I'm keeping an eye on it for sure!

The weather channel doesn’t have the best weather, but the aviation forecast isn’t bad at all. We are definitely coming. We have a room at the Fairfield Inn and I’m also bringing my large tent and camping gear to stay out of any rain and possible camp. My dad will definitely be at the hotel.
See everyone there. Looking forward to it.

The forecast today doesn’t make it look worth going. Too much rain. We will postpone and arrive early tomorrow when it’ll be sunny and nice. Hope all of you will still be there tomorrow.

Right there with you Tripp. The "boss" is none too excited about standing in the rain today on a windy airport on a 60 degree day. We're postponing as well.

Well the Rockport Fly In was nice today. It was a shame that only 2 of the 5 Skymasters made it, but next time hopefully it works out better for everyone. We definitely need a Skymaster fly in. We had a lot of interest.

Thanks to Jerry Brown for organizing the event and having his Skymaster there with ours.

I love the idea of a SkyMaster fly-in. Texas is too far for me to manage these days with work and life being what they are. But if there were something a little closer to home, I'd be in.
