Under Part 91 it is recommended, the TCM I.O. 360 owners manual says Bendix mags "should" or "need" to be overhauled at 500 hr interval.

Whats the cost of overhauling a mag vs installing an electronic ignition?

Surefly

Surefly is another certified option to replace 1 magneto. Need a slick harness and engine analyzer. $1695 per.

Surefly seems like they intend to put Electroaire out of business.

$1695 vs. $4400? I just checked, those are the current prices for a Cont. 360 setup.

And the install is much simpler with the SureFly, it just replaces the existing mag (after adding a power circuit), whereas the ElectroAire requires the additional installation of a magnetic crank position sensor.

Mags

FOR: JB78382.
Hello. I'm pretty sure the 500 Hour is an INSPECTION not an OVERHAUL, especially under the Part 91. Your local A&P mechanic can do the inspection without much trouble. Although the mags are difficult to remove/install, time consuming maybe 6-8 hours total. Especially if the A&P hasn't have much Skymaster maintenance time. Hope this helps.
Regards.

Mags

Hey All,
I've just had the mags of the front engine inspected in line with the 500h engine and air frame maintenance schedule. It's worth doing imho. There have also been a fair number of SB's on these mags across their lifetime.

Pain in the ass to get off though :-D
