Picture of 337 Rear Engine Fire

I do not know anything about the events that lead up to the condition pictured. The picture and parts are in a picture box hanging in the men's room at the McCampbell-Porter Airport (TFP) near Ingleside, TX. I know it has been there a while, not sure how long.

I wasn't sure if the first year or so of the 337 had the fan and shroud.

I sense an opportunity for someone to come up with a Bluetooth fire detection system.

No bulkhead penetration required, so it would be a simple installation. While particularly attractive for the rear engine on 336/337s, any small airplane could benefit from it.

There are bulkhead connections to get past the firewall. When I rebuilt my PA22/20 into my commute-mobile, I put in a stainless steel firewall and used pressure bulkhead plugs for everything to include the electrical. I had Electronic International engine instruments and used one of the available data points on a UGB16 as a firewall heat sensor. It worked well.

I would like to have Aviation's Enterprises Mirror System for Fire Detection, but at $1K for the mirrors, nope. I'll do something like I did before.

I'm installing 2 back-up camera's, one on each boom inspection panel looking forward to each side of the engine, still working on how/where to put the screen.

Smile Picture of 337 Rear Engine Fire

MelsML55. I bought a mini cam with a 3.5" monitor. AND I PURCHASED A WIRELESS transmitter and receiver that connects to most cameras. It's 9-12 voltage so I used an adjustable electronic step-down transformer that works up to 50 volts. If interested search on e-bay.

A few good ideas above, I'm still using the old original 02 fire detection system on my planes
