shimmy dampers

I'm told I need a new Shimmy Damper for my 1977 337G.
Any ideas out there where to buy economically ?
Thanks.

Yes, two ideas.

First, the damper is repairable by your A&P if the metal (case and flange) is not broken. The IPC (illustrated parts catalog) shows all the interior parts, and typically replacing the seals will do the trick.

Second, if the metal is broken, you should be able to find an as-is (also called as-removed or repairable) damper from a used-parts dealer, which your A&P can then use to install all new seals. My "backup" Skymaster web site at www.SkymasterUS.com has a page on "Purchasing Parts" with detailed instructions on how to find reliable parts at the best possible price. Notice on as-is parts that a key thing to look for is returnability, because you should be able to return the used damper if the inspection by your A&P finds problems. The site also has the names and contact info for vendors of Skymaster parts who have performed well in the past; the list for as-is parts has Don Nieser's Commodore at the top, and I would start with him.
