DPE near KLVK

Hi

I am looking into getting my son his multi rating in my skymaster. I have an instructor, but the DPE I used based out of Hollister is no longer doing skymaster certs. Does anyone know of a DPE who can do this that is reasonably close to the bay area?

Multi rating

If he is issued his multi rating in the Skymaster he will be limited to centerline thrust aircraft only. If later he wants to fly conventional twins, the time in centerline thrust will not count. Suggest he do multi training in conventional twin. If he has conventional twin rating, Skymadter time applies as multi engine. It's a quirk in the regs.

Don't make a big mistake, take the side by side ride and be fully multi engined

Yeah I had thought about that. Might end up having to go this route by default if we cant find the examiner.

Check Virginia for ME/INST DPEs (DPE-CIRE-AMEL) on the FAA DPE locator site:
https://designee.faa.gov/#/designeeLocator


Results will include DPE contact information. Else, you can call the Richmond FSDO and they can assist in finding one.

If you take an IFR checkride in a 337, are you limited to CLT, or can you fly IFR in any light twin?

You will be limited to CLT if the plane does not have a published VMC. You can have the limitation removed by taking another check ride in a "regular" twin and do a few maneuvers. On the Airman Certification Standards there is a list for what needs to be done to remove the CLT rating. it is in Appendix 7 I believe.

The above assumes that you do not already have a multi-engine rating. If you already have one and want to get the instrument add on, I assume that it is about the same as you need to do a single engine approach as part of that work.

Here is the ACS information. You do need to do the IFR in a regular twin, but here is the list of things you need to do to remove that limitation
