Sweet! You'll never buy another oil filter for the Skymaster.

So the question becomes....
From where and how much?

Stunning!
Please let us know if your oil temp changes from using the old fashioned filters. |

Not cheap; I've had paper element filters on order for most of the year without any movement. It was the same with the Challenger units, but I saw the wait time decrease; when the wait time went through 30 days, I decided to go with metal as the paper hadn't changed.
I think that saving money on an airplane has gone out the door. I am more into not letting the toilet paper panic mentality of people preventing my travel. I'm flying through four to five oil changes a year, and waiting is unacceptable. There have been a lot of obstacles in launching an airplane in the last couple of years, and more than likely, I don't have a lot of time to do the traveling I need. I'm not going to wait a minute for a filter. The O-Rings are tossed at every oil change, and the actual filter element is replaced at 500 hours. When I decided to go with the metal, I bought everything I needed to fly for 1000 hours; the replacement seals and two elements. I'm glad I did, and the price of the seals has doubled. In the past, I had obsessed a bit about my trip scheduling to get back to my shop for an oil change. I'm with Savvy now, and I have two O-rings in my RON kit. I will change the oil with the shop they select at a logical location. Quote:
I'm fighting the front engine's low oil temperature issue, 120 ~ 130°. Savvy is working on it for me. At the last change, before going with Savvy, I had the vernatherm valve replaced, the shop did a plug and play. Their thoughts are that the oil cooler should have been flushed as sludge can prevent the valve from completely seating and cause it not to work as intended. I have Teletemps stuck all over the engine; the problem is at the cooler. Many fixed-wing pilots don't know what a Telatemp so a picture is worth... They are temperature-sensitive tape that records the maximum temperature of the surface that they are attached to. You can buy them in just about any temperature range you can think of. They are cheap but typically require a minimum count to order. They are used extensively on helicopter components. Last edited by patrolpilot : 10-24-22 at 09:48 AM. |
