Hi Forum I was looking at the Flap cables, from the inside of the cabin, just as they leave the cabin into the wing they go trough a hole about 3/3 inch diameter. I noticed that they were rubbin the alluminum area above the hole to the point of wearing a small indentation on the alluminum. Is there supose to be a gide, rubber, gruments or other material to prevent this from hapening?
the cable is in greate shape looks lubricated, and to the touch I felt no broken strands.
Amy coments

Thanks Francisco Gonzalez

flap cable guide

Franciso

1) need to consult your parts manual for correct information regarding guides.
2) AC is telling you something.............

possible problems.

1) a roller guide or bellcrank has been overstressed and bracket is bent.
2) wing has been overstressed.
3) wing out of alignment.
4) Roller is exceptionally worn.

In summary there is something that is not right. Should inspect carefully to determine problem. Cables should not rub against any aluminum.

Is it aligned at other flap positions?
Is it one side or both?

Flap cables are vunerable to overstressing if airspeed exceeds design limitations........

a few suggestions

Thanks Bob, Board, well the mechanich has checked the cable and found that the left wing flap was very loose (slouch) not tensed to the required presure. Will do that first thing on monday, and will see if the cable still is rubbin agains the metal. As far as the cable goes, it is well lubricated and seems ok. Next week, I will take digital pictures of the erosion the cable cause, to post, and I belive everyone should check the cables as they enter the wing from the cabin.

re flap cable

Francisco

Looks can be deceiving. An overstressed cable can cause stretching and in turn, cause premature failure.

For the cost of a couple of cables I would recommend replacing it. The 337 is unlike the 210 and other flap systems. There is no follow-through cable. This cable interconnects flaps so in the event of a flap cable failure both flaps will retract equally.

In the case of the 337 a failure can cause one flap to remain extended. This is NOT a failsafe condition.

I would like to know how Cessna was able to have the A/C certified on the basis of a flap cable failure, extended flaps. Perhaps more diligence in the flap system is required as the fleet ages.

Well, my mechanic found the rods for the flaps had been wore down by some screw (too long) and rubbin to the point of making a pin hole on the tube What Do I do?
he recomend's I dont' fly the plane untill I replace the rods. can they be welded?

so there she sits and here I seat, my wallet is empty and my credit car extended all forthe love of fly.....

re rods q

Franciso

We all need credit cards to fly <G>

Check the boneyards. I am sure there are some around as rarely do this give out.

I am sure you can heliarc to fix but you need to find a shop that will certify their work. Worth checking if all else fails.
