Need to hold gear handle while retracting

I was performing a gear check as part of annual yesterday using the drill adaptor method.
Everything seemed to work fine except while retracting, i needed to hold the handle up or it would stop.
Any ideas?

Does everything work normally up in the air? I did swing check with drill and seemed drill doesn’t result in pump output like with the engine running it. However didn’t have to hold the gear lever. Wonder if there may be some weakness in system overcome with engine operation/higher output. Like leaking o rings in hydraulic pack. Or some weakness of the pump. Might be worth a call to Cox airparts.
