Front Vacuum Pump
Anyone have experieince with these going out. I have the rear one still operational, last flight showed front Inop. My question is do you think it is just the pump or do I need to start somewhere else.
Also anyone have an opinion on OH v. New. I have an all glass panel, Vacuum is just for running deice boots. So not critical except in icing conditions, which I try to avoid anyhow. I am thinking about saving 300 by purchasing OH from Aircraft Spruce. Thoughts. |

Overhaul
Frank - My opinion is go for an overhaul. these are high failure items (low mean time between failure) that I do not feel is worth spending more money on. I know there will be disagreement on this subject, but that is why opinions are like belly-buttons; Everyone has one and they are not good for anything.
I have seen some pumps last into the thousands of hours, and others in the hundreds. I budget to replace a vacuum pump every 500 hours (if you rely on it for IFR operations) - but on a twin, would run to failure. Single engine - replace at 500 hours. Overhaul
Overhaul for sure!
I just replaced one, but I’m putting a pair of Aspens in in April and don’t have boots. I might take them out. |
