I bought a 1979 P337 last year and am going through the same issues you are.
The previous owner did install a Garmin G500 glass panel MFD, which interfaces with the old Cessna 400 AP and Garmin 530. Also a Garmin GI275 backup AI.

But I have similar questions you do.

Do I do the gear mod? I don’t mind raising the gear late as you mentioned, but I’m having an intermittent gear retraction issue we can’t pin down and maybe less actuators etc will simplify the system to work more reliably?

What to do with the AP? Garmin says they will begin working on the STC for the new digital GFC 600 next year, but we’ve heard that before, so who really knows. STEC 3100 is not a future option, so the older analog STEC 55x seems to be the best bet for an AP

I guess I didn’t even consider refurbishing my old Cessna 400 AP

I too love the Skymaster, and that’s coming from a guy who flew a TBM for the past 15 years :-) ( but nowhere near your total hours of flying)

Thanks for reaching out
