Glad you made it home safely Herb. I hope that when the Chicago Center controller asked if you were on board by name, did not cause you any undue concerns. It was just a "funny" sequence of events.
I was looking at the photos of your plane that Scotty had posted just a few hours before I went to work today. Then shortly after I sat down at the radar scope, I heard the controller next to me who was working the airspace over the PMM VOR respond to "Skymaster N712JF." After I heard that, I was thinking, why does that call sign sound so familiar? I could not recall if that was your call sign or not so I asked Mark (the controller working you) to ask you if that was in fact you. I figured you would not recognize my name as we have never met but thought possibly it would ring a bell if he mentioned this website. Anyway, congrats on your awards and maybe one of these days I will make it over to 08C with my plane and we could meet. Take care.... Ed Asmus |

That was really cool when the center controller asked me that. It caught me by surprise at first and then I figured out that he said "Ed Amus" and I knew who it was. Thanks for chiming in. Would love to meet somewhere, I will be at PWK on Wednesday but have to go to some meetings so that may not work. Maybe on a weekend we can get together for breakfast.

Sounds good Herb. I occasionally get a weekend off. Working a rotating schedule has me working all sorts of weird hours. Are you usually hanging out at Riverview on the weekends? I'm based at Aurora (ARR) so we are not too far away.

![]() Herb,
Seems like there is no real competition for your wonderful bird - in the USA! $180,000 of upgrading later, it would have been interesing to see how my plane would have fared. Unfortunately I just don't have the time to enter into these competitions. Congratulations!

You win the award for spending money in my category. Don't know if there is an award for that or not but WOW, let's see that bad boy! Photos, let us judge the results. How about Arlington, WA, big EAA show out there. What ya say? Meet ya there?

Grand Champion Contemporary Class
This Comanche 400 won the Big Daddy award for my class. As you can see from the photos it is a work of art. Really nice owner and I had the pleasure to share restoration stories with him. I have not seen someone go to these lengths before. Reminds me of the roadster car shows.
Cruise speeds with this single engine IO-720 Lycoming are in the 200 kt range burning 20 gals per hour. Not bad for a single. Not many of these around but this has to be the best.
