I think you will find that almost any DPE can do the test in your 337, they just have to get prior approval to do so from the local FSDO they report into.

In other words, they get one off permission to do the test in a different aircraft that is not on their list.

That is exactly what I have had to do in the past. I think the DPE is required to attach his examination authority to the paperwork he sends in whis confirms the authority.

You can always talk to your local FSDO and confirm this. It is more work for the DPE so that may explain why you are not getting a positive view from them
