My last annual was 42 hours but that was owner assist with me doing a lot of the time consuming removal of panels, seats, fairings, etc.

Ask your A&P if he'll let a motor shop that works on DC motors take a look at it. It's becoming more common as the legacy fleet ages and parts cease to become available. If they can find an issue...

My GMU11 is about 75% of the way out the left...

My GMU11 is about 75% of the way out the left wing. There's an access/inspection place and it's mounted in there.

I haven't had any interference issues.

I do the same as Jerry and center the pitch command wheel before turning on the A/P...5.5 turns from either stop.

Strongly recommend you reach out to Jake at Bevan-Rabell. They just IRAN'ed my A/P...

It's not the sort of thing you eyeball. Make a template and use the service manual.
