You have to remember there were Big antennas on the airplane (on the top and on the Belly) along with the 4 hard-points, each could carry at least 350 lb some of the configurations with the rocket...

Since you're only deploy 1/3 flaps I normally do it about 2/3 of the way down the runway depending on AirSpeed and conditions, STOL practice is a good skill to have.
