I did say a brush was adapted, not just a question of fitting a "new one". A friend of mine did this, so I will ask him what he used. Will keep you advised.

Our front cowl flap motor finally packed up. It had been intermittent for some time. Seems the problem was a broken brush. Spares not available but we adapted a brush from another source. Works fine...
