New Starters we Recomend....

While we were typing along someone came by and said hey whats the new starters .... whats the deal...

Well we only recomend the new one from Lamar... one size fits all cont engines... they are lighter smaller and take less current... and have done away with the major problem... the field windings shorting out to the case... by changing to the same as the new cars have... a magnet core... thus now more wires to vibrate and short out the field to ground... and it get a higher reliablitiy and rating for dependiablity...

Lamar can be found at the site www.lamartec.com and if you want to order one... the P/N is 2407 they sell for $465.... each... but, if you don't need one right away... they will be their when you need a replacement... and they have a core deposit on your old one that they want off the market... kinda thing...

And... oh by the way... you need to make up a new seal plate for the back engine... as the new one is considerably smaller...

they have a neet web site and you can see a video of the thing as well as their new features...

here is what they look like...

A few weeks ago we had the Continental tech rep at our shop and he told us it was a bad thing to put on one of these starters.
Reason was that they don't provide enough resistance to allow the spring clutch to release. Newer starter drives might last 2 to 3 starts before things go really bad. And though the current draw is lower, the initial current draw is greater and in some instances will fuse the contacts in your starter relay.
