new to the group

Thank you for having me. I am a longtime pilot. SEL and planning to upgrade as soon as i have the aircraft to train in, hopefully an O2. Been flying since 1962. my biggest problem will be insurance at 83 years of age. Think it stinks that number of years trumps my excellent health.

JimC 06-22-20 10:48 AM

Good luck. It's a rough year to start insurance.

jimisb 06-22-20 10:51 AM

do you mean this year in particular or do you mean my age?

frank.oconnor19 06-22-20 10:53 AM

This year. People are seeing increases across the board

jimisb 06-22-20 10:57 AM

OK, but for me I am finding no takers because of my age. All I want is enough liability to protect my estate. I am not concerned about the plane as I figure if I crash with enough damage that I cant afford it I will probably be dead anyway and the plane will be paid for with cash.

Try our agent. Victoria Neuville 301-682-6200

She was a big help for a friend that had a recent claim.

jimisb 06-22-20 11:31 AM

Thanks, I will cal later this afternoon.

I called Victoria and she couldnt help. First I am too old, but the clincher was that I wanted to fly a Skymaster and that is almost as bad as being old.....LOL

JimC 06-22-20 06:05 PM

I've been working with Victoria on my insurance. The difference between this year and last year has been eye-popping.

Don't feel bad, I had my MEI/CFII get turned down flat for a Skymaster because she didn't have enough time, even when I offered liability only with no hull coverage. She has 100+ hours of multi AND she's an MEI!

jimisb 06-22-20 06:20 PM

well, what it means is that I will put all my assets in a trust that I have no control over, in my two daughters names. Then I will fly without insurance. They force us unto corners. It doesnt make sense that I am in better physical health than I was 50 years ago and MUCH smarter but hey refuse me because of when I was born.

What about the Airport

Not to throw fuel on this fire but...Have you thought about what you are going to say to the airport people renting you a tie down or a hangar when they ask for Proof of Insurance and to be a named insured?

jimisb 06-22-20 07:43 PM

Just fly out of my own airport. Owner wont give sh*t

GAdams 06-22-20 07:45 PM

Good Plan

Nice to have your own airport.

jimisb 06-22-20 07:49 PM

Yeah, but I have to get fuel. But have never been asked for insurance when getting fuel, or for that matter when using transient tie downs, have you?

GAdams 06-22-20 07:52 PM

No I haven't. Enjoy your Skymaster/O2
