Glare shield and EL panel question
 

Thank you in advance:

My glare shield is loose on my 77G, non-turbo. Where are the screws/bolts that attach this to the top of the panel or structure?

On the main EL panel under the pilots yoke, where do the wires from the EL panel to the inverter exit? For example, when seated in the pilots seat, do they exit upper left, lower right, etc?

On my ‘77 NA G model, the EL panel wired are twisted black/white and attach the the EL panel about 3” outboard of the center radio stack frame, just right of yoke for Pilot side, and just left of copilot yoke for flap panel.

Glare shield is mounted with sheet metal screws through plastic tabs across top of both pilots and copilots panels. You remove the overlays to see the screws.

My EL panel under the pilots yoke is not working, but the one for the flaps is. As such, I can assume that my inverter is working. I hope it is something as simple as a disconnected wire between the EL panel and the inverter, because from previous posts, it seems like removing the panel under the pilots yoke is a nightmare--and I'm not particularly fond of having to cut wires going to the yoke itself.

Years back I had Pflueger make up some nice custom panels, when my wife went 'Oooo' as I ran across them online.

"Ooooo" from one's wife is not an interrogatory or descriptive phrase, it is a command. It is subtle, but a command nonetheless. I am not sure if it cvan be called a 'suggestion.'

Like the USMC, we do what we have to do.

What I had Pflueger do is plant lamps/leds near the bottom of the fascia panels, that illuminate downward over all the switches. Presto. Wonderful lighting of all that lower stuff, without fighting with the electroluminescent panels at all.

Wood pseudo trim fascia panels can be seen in the attached.

Do you have a picture of that lighting set up?

Any suggestions on glareshield refurbishment? Mine is cracked, broken, multiple old repairs coming apart and covered in decomposing materials. Or any new that an outfit is making?

wslade2, I restored my glareshield earlier this year. Mine was structurally in decent shape, so I had minimal work to repair.

If I had to fix cracks in one though, I would do it with a two-part epoxy resin, with a fiberglass sheet support on the backside. Bondo makes a good system for this. The space between the upper and lower glareshield surfaces is only 0.75 - 1.0 inches, so it would be tight working in that space.

For the surface finish I used the products below. It turned out great.

I used the "Flat Black Vinyl & Fabric Coating", 11 oz. Aerosol, SKU: HVP106, to reduce the glare off the glareshield.

NAPA carries the surface finish products, although they did have to order what I needed.

Mine though is in too bad a shape for that level repair. The prior owner put a low pile automotive carpet on it with adhesive. Probably the best is to fix the cracks and cover with vinyl….or I’ve seen some of these interior shops and leather…

Aircraft spruce has a vinyl glare shield covering kit but got a bad review.
