Need O/H Cowl Flap Moter(Front)
 

Anyone knows Cowl flap moter over /hl shop?

Owen Bell (see Web Sites section of this site) has new and refurbished cowl flap motors. I have not heard a report on the quality of these units.

Search the site (use Search function above) for the word "cowl" and you will find lots of messages on this subject.

If you can find an A&P with an electronics background (usually they work at Avoioncs shops), they can disassemble and clean them and usually make a big improvement. I had a problem with my front motor filling with oil due to an oil leak we were having trouble solving, and I had this done several times. If something is burnt out, they won't have parts though.

Please do the search, it seems to me that someone else was coming up with a cowl flap motor solution recently.

Has front cowl flap motor only (no dynamic clutch like in rear cowl flap motor)

Had a front motor go out several months ago. Various prices on different options. Finally found Don Neiser at Commodore, to have best price fastest turnaround on a rebuild. My IA said it seemed to be good price, good work. Owen had new ones at best price for new could find, if that route is chosen.

That's it! The one I could not remember. I did not know Don rebuilds the motors, but he would certainly be a good source for a replacement, either way.

Cowl Flap Motors
 

Most of the time the problem with the motors is they are full of oil and dirt and can be fixed in about an hour. I had both front and rear cowl flap motors failed. I removed both during the annual, disassembled, cleaned and put back on. They have been working fine for the last 3 years. Dale Campbell

Dale is right. Really not much to them. Take the motor apart and clean it up. I did and only took about hour to do. Just be carefull when you remove the rotor. The brushs are held in place by a small spring and if they should come apart, then the hour becomes two.

Our front cowl flap motor finally packed up. It had been intermittent for some time. Seems the problem was a broken brush. Spares not available but we adapted a brush from another source. Works fine now. Must have saved hundreds of dollars.

I did say a brush was adapted, not just a question of fitting a "new one". A friend of mine did this, so I will ask him what he used. Will keep you advised.

Motor Brush for Cowl Flap Motor
 

You can remove old brush and take to most small motor repair shops and they can match the brush. I did that when the small motor brush failed {broken pig tail}in the auto engine sync failed to keep engines in sync. Dale Campbell
