Finally i am one of you!

Second pre buy trip did it. I am the owner of N84E 73 P337 #0142. Thanks to all of you for the helpful info. N84E is still in the seller's hanger at the Annapolis Bay Bridge Airport w29 but will be picked up by an Owen Bell ferry pilot and moved to Nashville next week for a cargo pod mod. It already has Horton STOL and the gear door mod so there is not much more that I will be doing with Owen. I ought to get it back to my home field KHMT (Hemet CA) by mid April.

Sure to have a bunch more questions when it gets here, but Thanks Again.

Congrats! Any chance of a ride when you get it home? I'm at SEE but I'll come up to HMT and I'll be happy to share gas.

Hmm, I wonder if that is the plane my partner just looked at the other day ... we were looking for another 337 and while the P model is great we need a 337 for low level survey work ... just came back last night from Tampa with the "new" one ...

What's Owen Bell's web site? And how much are the cargo pod + mods these days?

So, how long does it take for Owen to install a cargo pod?

aldoradave 04-06-09 11:50 AM

We never got into that but my guess is about a week or less since he has them in stock. But I may not find out, as some insurance issues have arisen with his ferry pilot and I may just bring N84E out here directly, then install the pod with my local guy. Owen wanted $9,500 painted and installed, plus $1000 for an exhaust pipe mod. I don't know what Owen's pod only price is but RT Aerospace has a pod also at $6000 plus shipping. My guess is that Owen is compoetitive.

Pod Installation - Aviation Enterprises

I asked Owen about a pod installation on a 337B, and he sent me the attached. I expect the pod installation may be more expensive for a pressurized plane since the anchor nuts have to be sealed to keep the pressure capsule tight.

"It takes 3 days to install and paint it. Also that he needs his tail pipes extended to keep the exhaust from staining the paint on the cargo pod

Cost:

Pod $6000

Installation and paint $2500

Modification of exhaust $1000

Total $9500

Owen Bell"

I am not sure, but I seem to recall that the front cowl flaps are modified to open wider if the cargo pod is installed FWIW. You should check on this. There was one on my plane at one time, but no longer, but all the mounting stuff is still there. The cowl flaps open the standard distance, but I still have the longer tailpipe for the cargo pod.

The front cowl flap actuator rods are longer, so the flaps are open just a bit when fully closed and open further when full open.

This is part of the Cessna pod installation, but may not be required for an aftermarket pod STC installation.
