Need a glare shield
 

I need a glare shield for my 1976 P model. Any idea where I might get one?

Call up and speak with Trevor. The final result was very nice - however, dealing with Trevor can be an extreme test of your patience. He's a very nice guy and a pleasure to talk with. However, his ability to follow through and deliver on his commitments is not his strongest trait.

Upholstery shop for cosmetics?

Cessna can probably provide one, but I'm guessing the lead time would be several weeks. Last time I checked prices on these, a couple years back, they were over $1100 bucks. You might give Yingling in Wichita a call, as they generally know what's on hand at the factory.

If you're in need of just replacing the padded portion on the forward lip that often cracks from 'hand-holds' and sun damage, the entire glareshield can be removed from the airplane and sent out for refurbishing. Flightcraft at KPDX use to have a sub-contractor upholstery shop that did this kind of work and the prices were real reasonable, around $200 bucks for a new leather-stitched lip. Saw one installed on a Hawk XP and it was real sharp.

Was just curious what was wrong with the present glareshield in 326? I'm guessing here, maybe sun cracks in the plastic lip?

The glareshield in my 67 T was badly cracked when I bought the plane. A couple of visits under the panel for avionics upgrades made it crack clear through down the middle.

(I have no fancy "front piece" that's different from the rest of the material.)

What I did was buy one of those kits from the guy that advertises in TAP about plastic material repairs. The stuff worked great. It took some playing around to figure it out, but I used that stuff to reglue all the pieces and cracks of the glareshield, then sanded the glued cracks a little after it dried. Then I painted it with a flat, non-glare black (which is what it was originally). I then had a nice-looking one-piece glareshield again.

Agter that, since I was ordering a new carpet I took an old sheet and cut it to fit the top of the glareshield. Then I sent it off to the shop selling me the 337 floor carpet and they made me a piece of carpet to match the pattern and included it at no charge. It was finish-sewn around the edges and nice.

It took some doing, but it was sure nicer than spending over a grand for a new one, and I knew the glareshield fit since it was the original.

Glareshield Removal
 

I have a 1975 T337G, and I need a glareshield. I have identified a source, but before I commit I need to know how painful it is going to be to remove the glare shield and install the new one.
Has anybody removed glareshields from 1975 ( +/- ) Skymasters, and if so how do you do it?

Hi Barry

When I removed my glareshield I found accessibility to the small mounting nuts just behind the instrument panel easier if I removed some of the top instruments.

Mounting nuts are small brass ones, I found my hands needed to be half the size to get in and undo these nuts if you were coming from the avionics access panels, plus you have to contend with all the plumbing.

There are also a number of mounting nuts across the glareshield, once you have these undone it is fairly straight forward to lift and remove.

I reviewed my time sheets where I recorded 3.8hrs to remove some instruments and glareshield thenrefit, now the only difference is I did not refit the instruments at that time.

Not a huge task in my view, just a fiddly one, hope this helps.
