pitot heater elements

Dan, do you have any of those elements? I'm in need of one.

Dan schultz 04-29-20 07:27 PM

Don’t have any yet, I have a vendor, specs, drawings, no parts yet.

Dan

MD83driver 05-23-20 10:01 PM

Dan, I would also be interested in buying one!

Learjetter 05-24-20 02:56 AM

Dan. Count me as interested!

Please let me know as well. Thanks

New vendor located, looking to have 100 units manufactured, hope to have them now in about 90 days

Trippster 10-11-20 01:02 PM

When possible can you post a picture of one and pricing?

Thanks,

Tripp

kbecker 10-12-20 12:30 AM

I'm still interested.

I’m still in!

MD83driver 10-13-20 08:52 PM

Merry Christmas to me, I am still interested. Thanks

mshac 11-11-20 02:15 PM

Thanks for doing this, I love to see a new resource for our Skymasters! That said, will this be legal to install on a Part 135 operated 337?

Dan schultz 11-17-20 09:52 AM

When I get the PMA approval it will be. I should be sending the data package to FAA engineering this week, then it’s wait time and back and forth with them.

I am having 100 units made and I do expect my first five evaluation units in about 14 days. The balance of 95 units will follow.

Pricing will be in the 250-300 dollar range. Those that want to do the owner produced part scenario can get them rather quickly.

Dan

Trippster 11-18-20 04:35 PM

Dan,

I am definitely interested ASAP. Please let me know when you have them available and what you need from me.

Thanks,

Tripp

Learjetter 11-18-20 10:39 PM

“2!”

I’m up for the owner-produced route.

patrolpilot 11-21-20 03:54 PM

I'm in for either.

Dan schultz 11-23-20 07:23 PM

First 5 units scheduled for delivery Dec 18. Units will be universal for P models and unpressurized models. The two .070 holes for the pitot head are in different positions between the pressurized and unpressurized models.

Confusing statement - "Units will be universal for P models and unpressurized models"

but then you say - "The two .070 holes for the pitot head are in different positions between the pressurized and unpressurized models."

So which is it? Are they universal, or will you be producing two versions?

Dan schultz 11-24-20 10:53 AM

What I am trying to say is the heater is universal for both versions. The heater will have two sets of holes (.070) one set is used for P models, and the other set used for un-pressurized.

The holes for a pressurized aircraft are .050 from the center line of the part, .600 inches apart.

The un-pressurized aircraft has the top hole .100 from the center line (yes the front hole will look like a Mae West), and the lower hole is .150 from the center line, these holes are also .600 apart.

These dimensions are from the SE1230-7 template as described in ME75-6.

Installation will be using two #50 drill bits (supplied) that you will put in your existing holes, peel off the release paper from the back of the heater and slide down over the the two #50 bits which will align the heater to the aluminum pitot block. One wire from the heater will be RTV'd down the channel on the pitot block to the Thermo Disc temp controller, the other wire will connect to the aircraft blue power wire. Once this is completed you will leave the #50 bits in place, place RTV on the heater unit and install in the strut fairing. When the unit is installed in the strut fairing with the two screws, then the #50 bits will be removed. These instructions are what is described in the maintenance manual, and ME75-6 Replacement Procedure, and Figure 1, Pitot Head Replacement 337, F337, T337G, FT337G

So the long and the short of it, instead of making two different parts, all four of the .070 holes are incorporated into one part making it a universal fit when installed, RTV will seal the extra set of holes.

Thank you for the clarification!

Trippster 11-25-20 09:47 AM

Can you post a picture when you have one? A photo always helps.

Dan schultz 11-26-20 10:31 AM

When I have one in hand I will post a pic

Dan

LostKiwi 11-27-20 02:03 AM

I'll definitely take one!

Happy to go the "owner produced" route.

First five units arrive today, will post some pics and more info over the weekend after I evaluate them.

Dan

Trippster 12-17-20 10:31 AM

Dan,

That is exactly what I need. Let me know how to order it.

Thanks,

Tripp

For those that would like to go the owner produced parts please PM me with your email and I will provide you with the specifics for ordering.

I have ran the heater for 3.5 hours continuously last week in the hangar without any problems. I will have 3 units that should be able to ship by the end of the month. The unit in the circuit with the thermostat pulls 2.3 amps.

The kit will include, heater unit, Cessna style single wire connectors and pins for the power wire and the ground wire, push on connectors to connect to the thermo disk, two #50 drill bits for alignment and installation, tube of high temp RTV, 4 ty-raps, and installation instructions. A requirement will be that the installation be checked with an external power supply to verify that the thermostat (thermo disk) is working properly. And a word of caution, Do not power the heater until the installation is complete in the strut fairing.

As a note, you did well with the amp draw! For those of you without the Maintenance Manual, I have the '74 through '80; my '77 G is 4.3 amps! '74 through '76 is 2.2 (close enough), the '78 is 2.9, and the '79 & '80 is back to 2.2. Well done, Dan!

Hi Dan,

I own a 1973 C337G Sky Master, N1873M s/n 33701473. My pitot heat recently has ceased to function. Do you still sell your pitot heat kit as well as the thermostat/heat sensor? If so, what is your current price for all and how do I order? I also sent you an email at the address you posted.

I will see my IA mechanic tomorrow to discuss installing your kit if you have availability.

Sincerely,

Ed Asmus

For those interested, this kit works very well. Get the thermostat at the same time.

PH502 24 volt heated pitot (used ebay)

I know I had mine replaced years ago, and it was under $300 new.
My my, how time flies....

Just curious: Would these work on older 337's, albeit used?
