Rear Cowl Flap Cable Length
 

Does anyone out htere know the length of the cable for the rear cowl flap motor control?

I have a '67 337B with a frozen cable (less than 250 hours old).

eleminated the cables and installed limit switches and switches on the panel with lights to tell when the flaps are full open or full closed

What year and model is your Skymaster?

Did you do a 337 form, and, if so, how difficult was the approval?

Could you provide some details about the modification, or the info from the 337?

I have a 1967 337B and I replaced the cable about 4 years ago. I took the old one out and tried to make it work but finally gave up and purchased a new one from Cessna ($240). If you pull yours out you may be able to get it to work. In the future when you wash the rear engine make sure you cover the cable end real good so that water doesn't get into it. Sorry I don't know how long it is. If I can help let me know.

I got a number of 17' from Skymaster.ORG/uk.

This cable is only about 3 years old...

I will pull it at the next annual (or other reason to open the floor), but in the meantime I have the rear doors open just a few inches. The engine runs a tad cool, but not excessively so... and I don't want to have it completely closed when I get stuck as number 6 for 19R at SNA.

The cable is called a "follow-up' cable, I believe, and it gives feedback to the control to shut the motor off (and on, I suppose). There are also limit switches at the motor end.

I had to replace mine a couple of years ago because it was rusted. Water leaked in the avionics access panel and dripped down into the console and into that cable. Make sure your access panel isn't leaking and that there are no chafing points where the cable housing can become penetrated or scuffed to allow water in. Lube it regularly (at annuals).

My 67 337B has the early followup system, and would like to change to manuel. Has anyone installed the manuel STC on market. I lube mine - and all others - flap folowup, mixture, throttles, etc at annual time, or when needed.

To keep water out of the avionics compt I keep the access panel sealed with polyseam seal, takes a minute to unseal and gain access, and reseal.
