Pitot Heat unit/alternate

2 Attachment(s)
It looks like getting the thermostat/heater unit for the pitot heat is a very challenging thing. I'm not having much luck and ours keeps popping the CB every time it's turned on.

Does anyone know where I can get one or an approved alternative I could install?

Thanks,

Tripp

Check all the connections as that will sometimes be the problem. I know Griswold Aviation has fixed several of these but can't remember where he sent them. Give Craig a call 269-330-2908

you can get the therostat from air power $43.00 P/N 430-863

Thanks,

I've checked all the wiring and connections and it's definitely not that. I'll give air power a call.

if the thermostat wasn't properly bonded to the pitot block I would suspect the heat pad is fried I would try ohming that

Still working on the element, it is wired in series with the thermostat. The thermostat should be bonded to the bottom of the pitot, it appears you heater is missing in the circuit.

So apparently someone in the past glued the heat blanket to the inside of the strut fairing. That is where it is now. It's also probably why when I test the thermostat only it pops the breaker because nothing is going through the heat blanket.

I'm hoping to maybe just find an entire pitot unit with the heating elements I can replace this with, but all help and suggestions are appreciated. I've called everyone that's been suggested to me with no real luck.

Pitot Heater

Recommend, You dig it out and reattach it to the block. The installation calls for a bead of RTV to be put on it so it sticks to the inside of the fairing with no air gaps. The photos seems to indicate the pad is out of the circuit. It needs ot be in the circuit or the thermostat will likely pop. The pad itself does degrade with time. I was able to buy one of the last remaning ones. I found it on Controller using the part number for the heating pad.
Best of luck!

Gord,

Thanks for the info. I hope this helps. I'm passing this on to my avionics tech to do now.

Installed mine, plus thermostat, over the weekend--Ops Check good and my A&P/IA team is impressed with the kit package and written instructions. Well done, Dan! 5/5 would recommend.

Good to hear jetter! I have one of Dan's kits in my growing spares cabinet, just in case...
