cost to overhaul fuel distrubitors

Right now were spending about 175 for each of the "spiders". Whats inside, well a spring, a small cutoff valve, a diaphram, a fuel filter screen and a slide valve.

What function does it do on the engine. It is a central point where the fuel comes up to from the fuel pump via the rice valve on the throttle, it becomes the final fuel filter... and distrubited the fuel equally to all the injector lines. It also functions as the fuel cut off to the engine when the fuel pressure gets below 3-5 lbs making the engine shut down without balking.

What goes bad inside....
Most of the time its the rubber diaphram that gets hard and fails to allow the engine the amount of fuel it needs to run. Their is also a small mesh screen in the "spider body" that should be cleaned and replaced if its been damaged.

How do you know when its going bad....
Most of the time you will know when you need to have them serviced because the engine won't shut down correctly when you pull the idle cutoff. After that they seem not to be responsive to allowing full fuel flow to the engine.

We don't recommend that you take it apart as the plunger (valve) is a matched highly macheened part which can get scored if dinked with.

We suggest that you get one exchange overhaul or have yours sent to a shop that can overhaul them and bench test for the correct pressure operation. Their is a difference between some of them. One is 5 lbs and the other 3.. so don't get them mixed up...

We are saddened to hear that Larry B sold his plane. We want to thank him for all that he has done for the skymasters and their planes in his service to the group. We wish him well in his future adventures. It was great flying with him. Good Luck to you ...Larry. You will be missed.
