Best headset for Skymaster
 

Hi All,
I flew my friend who wore his Bose A20 yesterday. I was wearing my Lightspeed Zulu2 as usual. I have had issues hearing clearly during the take off in the my Skymaster but he said he had no issues and "the airplane is actually not that noisy at all" to my surprise.
I will borrow his headset to test but what are you fine 337 owners/pilots are using? I have no hearing issues, my wife however complains that I do not listen. I don't know the difference.

Bose A20, very good headset.

BOSE vs ZULU - broad spectrum response? Clipping?
 

Years ago in my T337 with another pilot,
we tried swapping my BOSE 10 (yes) with the original ZULU headset.

At that time
the zulu feedback circuits would start clipping on takeoff.
I later tried the next version of BOSE and heard similar clipping.
Maybe supersonic tip speeds driving circuits to limit of dynamic range?

Not the end of the world, but...

The other thing I recall was
BOSE had noticeably better full spectrum response
like a high quality stereo headset.

ZULU seemed optimized just for speech, a lot of rolloff of highs and lows from music.

As we get older (speak for yourself), maybe those high's aren't so important anymore?

Anyway, I think I've cornered the global market on original BOSE silicon replacement seals and am now running low.

A new headset move may be imminent.

QUESTION:

Has anyone tried listening to broad spectrum music (hi and low freqs) with the current offerings from BOSEA20 vs Zulu?

I’ve tried both Bose A20 and Lightspeed Zulu 3. I prefer Bose, my spouse prefers Zulu3. It’s all personal preference.

I use the Tango series headset. No wires. Good fit. Light weight. No tugging on my left ear. Seals well. Nice with music and good service from the factory. $175 complete overhaul including soft pieces. Buy a used one and send it in for overhaul and you can try it out for half the prices of a new Bose A20 or Lightspeed

I am getting ready to use my "musicians" molded in-ear monitors in the plane, it needs two plug adaptors. It is not technically noise canceling, however the outside noise suppression on stage is outstanding..... Will let you know.

I had a set of custom molded in ear and while I was happy with the results I still think the noise canceling technology is better.

Thanks Allen, What make of the molded in ears did you use?

I wish the Tango's were still offered, I want them in a helicopter I fly where I need to exit the machine and walk a passenger out from under the rotor.

Do you know why the Tango was discontinued?

I use Zulus upfront and Sierra's for the backseats
