Prop Extension

Since we will have our electric props STC'd here pretty soon. I was thinking of adding a change and needed some feedback on it. Since we don't need any oil, I was thinking of adding a 3-6" prop extension on the rear motor?

ARE YOU REFERRING TO THE BLADES?
DIAMETER?

Prop hub. Extending the prop away from the flange 3 to 6 inches. Getting the prop away from the wash coming off the fuselage.

prop extension

how does extending the prop away from the fuselage improve things?

Good question. I believe the rear engine climbs better than the front because the air coming over the cabin and rear engine stays attached, therefore less wash and turbulence??

Also, if you are about to complete your STC, you'd have to include the prop extension (and probably do some extensive testing??)

Compression factor..

If I remember correctly, the rear is more efficient because it does not have to contend with the air compressing against the cowl as the front engine does.. guy

Yep, we would have another 3 months of testing. I'd rather do it all in one step then having to start from scratch. (new STC for the extension). If it would offer a great benefit then we will start testing again. If not, then we will continue on the current path.

WITH THE MT PROPS THAT I HAVE THERE IS A PROP EXTENSION ON THE REAR. I AM NOT SURE THE EXACT LENGTH BUT I WOULD SAY IT IS ABOUT 3 - 4 INCHES. I WAS NOT QUITE CLEAR ON WHY IT WAS THERE WHEN THE PROPS WERE INSTALLED BUT I WILL QUESTION MT AND REPORT THEIR REASON.
