Rear cowl flap rigging pictures
 

Anyone have pictures they would like to share of the rear cowl flap limit switch pictures? Trying to rig mine, a little confused. Manual says the bottom switch is for closed, need more pictures.

Cowl flap motor
 

I believe whoever designed this system was shot before a firing squad.

It double reverses to work.

Probably someone said, "Oh, we forgot the cowl motors. Here is the mounting footprint, draw something"

Basic design would suggest not exercising the wiring harness and connections with each movement...until they break.

If you can, have a friend blip the cowl flap motor (open/closed) while you are observing its actual direction of movement.

Once you have observed its movement, and made what will become 'obvious' adjustments on the switch positions, try to secure the wires in such a way that the soldered termination on the motors isn't being twisted and bent each time.

Also, toss in a 2 amp (or less) fuse inline with the motor to save you some grief, should it go past a limit.

Lastly, as I recall,the turbo rear flaps are supposed to be 1/4 inch open when closed.

Thank you for the reply. Everything is wired correctly according to the wiring diagram in the maintenance manual, however when operation in the aircraft the close switch and to be moved to open position and the open switch moved to the closed position. I also had to add .090 shims so the switches would close correctly. All works fine now, so either the wiring diagram is labeled incorrectly or the wiring under the panel is wrong. Either way system works as advertised now.

Motor polarity
 

Cessna used similar motors for other things.

Sometimes their polarity different.

I bought two motors same size shape, for some other Cessna, new in box (from 1970?), and they ran the opposite direction.

Swap polarity, good to go!

Similar w 337 flap motor. Same motor was used on 400 series cowl flaps.
