Rick,

Cessna has the item... refer to your Parts Manual for the Cabin Interior parts. Once you have the part numbers, you should be able to look it up on-line at these two sources:

http://www.cessnaparts.com/

I recall this item being fairly reasonable.

I recently got some from Browns Aircraft Supply in Jacksonville (904)396-6655. He has S2171-1 which does most of the windows and the price was pretty good in comparison to everyone else.

On the door windows, you need S2171-1 plus the S2172-1 molding, which I have not been able to located easily. Please let me know if you find a source for it.

If anyone has figued out a good way of joining the ends, please let me know. Otherwise the job is not as good as I woudl like to see it.

I’m resurrecting this 17 year old thread because I need this seal.

The Cessna part number is S2172-1, but it was superseded by part number R581567, ... which is no longer available.

Does anyone know of a supplier for this window seal?

If not, how about another sponge rubber seal that has a profile similar enough to work?

Thanks,

Rick

Great Lakes Aero

I just had my pilot side windows and door window replaced at my annual and my mechanic got the plastic and the seals at Great Lakes Aero.

Rick Erwin 02-28-21 04:49 PM

Thanks Tom, is your plane a P model??

TomM 02-28-21 05:08 PM

No it is not. They may still have stuff for the pressurized model, so I would check them out. The other company that people get windows from is LP Aero Plastics.

Rick Erwin 02-28-21 05:13 PM

Thanks again Tom.

Just to be clear, I need the seals for the forward edge of the forward window, and the seal for the aft edge of the aft window ... both in the cabin door for a pressurized G model.

I’ll certainly check with the companies you mentioned to see if they have them, or know somebody that might.

Anybody else have a supplier in mind?

Rick

Hi Rick,

I replaced this seal in my airplane back in June of 2009. I purchased it from Cessna at that time. My contact at the time was Melissa Clark. Her email at that time was MClark@cessna.textron.com. I have no idea if she would still be around all these years later but what the heck, send an email to this address and see what happens. I purchased enough of the S2171-1 to do all the side windows. My recollection of obtaining this material at that time was it was surprisingly easy and not very expensive and Melissa was very helpful.

Oooops, re-reading your post, I see the part numbers do not exactly match, but you could still attempt to reach Melissa. I'm guessing these seals are similar.

Good Luck,

Ed

Thanks Ed,

I ordered enough of the S2171-1 to do the entire circumference of all of the windows ... without knowing that half of each of the two windows in the upper door requires the S2172-1 seal.

I’ll definitely email Melissa and see if she has a source for the S2172-1 seal.

For Ed:

I sent an email to Melissa at the address you offered, it bounced back as undeliverable.

I called Cessna/Textron parts and inquired about the part. Part number S2172-1 was superseded by R581567 in 1991. R581567 showed no stock available in 1998.

The gal I spoke with sent me a list of four suppliers that showed possible stock. I struck out with each one. I also call the company that bought the original manufacturer - they don't make anything but sponge rubber sheets now.

So, I'm back at square one.

I'm now looking for an aftermarket sponge rubber seal that might have a similar profile that could be used, modified, or combined as a replacement. If/when I find something that works, I'll post it here.

For posterity purposes I've attached a dimensional drawing of the original part the gal from Cessna sent me to help in my search.

Bummer..., I'm pulling for ya Rick. Hopefully success is near and you'll be flying soon!

Good Luck! Ed

Try - not sure if they supply it but can't hurt to ask
