FAA Examiner in Midwest for Multi-Engine IFR Checkride

Do any of you know of an FAA examiner in the Midwest area that is certified the do a Multi-Engine IFR Checkride in a 337? I have requested this info from my local FSDO, but thought I would also do a search on my own.

Will need to take my 337 Checkride in the next month or two - and to do it in my 337, I need a examiner who is qualified to do the checkride in my 337 apparently... (This is what I am being told) The 3 local examiners that are in my area are cert'd for Apache, Geronimo, and Seneca only...

I think you will find that almost any DPE can do the test in your 337, they just have to get prior approval to do so from the local FSDO they report into.

In other words, they get one off permission to do the test in a different aircraft that is not on their list.

That is exactly what I have had to do in the past. I think the DPE is required to attach his examination authority to the paperwork he sends in whis confirms the authority.

You can always talk to your local FSDO and confirm this. It is more work for the DPE so that may explain why you are not getting a positive view from them

Also, if you can't find a designee to do the exam, then you can ask for an actual FAA examiner to give you the ride. I was a very early R22 (helicopter) student, and there was no R22 qualified designee in Oregon, so I got my checkride from an FAA employee.

The FAA has an obligation to provide you with a method for taking your checkride, either through a designee or with their own examiner.

Pat, where in the midwest are you? I am in Michigan and I may be able to connect you with someone here.

I can concur with Kevin that using an FAA examiner rather than a DPE is a viable choice. I did my ride with an examiner out of the Pittsburgh FSDO and he was most accomodating, even driving 3 hours each way from his office to my home field. There are a few in the bureaucracy who actually want to help.

Pat-
Roger "N"Clark with Des Moines FSDO did this for me a few years back. They are now located on the Ankeny airport (IKV).
