G5

My NSD360 HSI is on its last legs. Looking at possibly replacing with a Garmin G5 HSI, eventually doing a dual Garmin G5 install (replace AI with second unit and have reversionary redundancy).

anyone done something along these lines?

estimate on labor hours involved?

I don't think it will drive your autopilot. Do you have Navomatic?

rmorris 09-26-17 01:05 PM

navomatic

I do have a navomatic, but that is on the STC list already provided by Garmin if you get the soon to be shipped 29b interface for the G5...but more importantly, I will be installing a TruTrak autopilot in the hopefully not too distant future. I spoke with them at OSH, and we (Skymasters) are near and dear to the CEOs heart since he was raised in a Skymaster family. I am hoping later this year, or early next year on the new a/p.

but in meantime, just want to swap out the HSI for DG and nav (ie approach) purposes...a/p not a significant piece for me.

Do you have a 400A Navomatic? I do and they're NOT on the Garmin list currently.

I've had the same conversation with him, but lets face facts....right now it's just talk. 337's are REALLY REALLY low volume for any aviation products.

I don't use the autopilot for local flights, but I really appreciate them on cross country. I wasn't will to give up the a/p, so I kept the DG and AI in the panel.

Pretty sure mine is a B...but when I took quick glance, it jsut said Navomatic 400....either way, kinda moot if I'm going TruTrak

They are, and you're right it is just talk right now...but I actually won the drawing at Cessna to OshKosh dinner where I get 50% off TruTrak a/p....when I spoke with him, he made me comfortable I didn't just win a useless prize. He came over and looked my plane over, to get sense for what is involved. I then offered to fly my plane to his facility on my next XC and let his guys "take a look". I hope to do that in next week or so. so will keep everyone updated.

Let's keep our fingers crossed. I would HAPPILY put a Trutrak in the panel.

From Andrew's email today:

We are a little slower than I had hoped on getting the 182 and PA28 designs finished up, but those are still moving forward. We expect to submit out final paperwork on those in the next few weeks. That puts us only about a month behind where I was hoping to be at this time. Not too bad considering all of the hurdles along the way.

I know you are ALL wondering what’s next after the 182 and PA28. Honestly, I just don’t know yet. It is looking like Mooney and maybe Bonanza’s are next in line. I will sit down and dig through all the data here pretty soon and will make that final determination by the time we submit the final paperwork on the two aircraft we are working on now.

I saw that. Disappointing.

Find a list of the most produced aircraft by type, with the obvious 172 at the top. Go down the list in descending order until you find the 337. Every plane above that will get an autopilot STC first.

I emailed Andrew and he said that "they'll get to light twins next year."

Gah. Vaporware.
