Looking for Interior Dome Light Lens
Im looking for Part# 1515021-1, Its the interior Dome light plastic lens cover. If anyone has a spare laying around or know where I can get one, please let me know. Its for my 75' T337G
Thanks! Or if I can borrow one from someone so can scan it to take measurements So I can create a model for 3D printing. |
Just by the views alone, there seems to be an interest in the dome light. If I cant find one to borrow, I will try to reproduce one without it.
Challenge accepted. |
I may have one at the hangar. I will check this weekend.

I have one not the best, can send it to you, maybe you could make an extra spare, I could use one to

That would be great, I will try to do my best in replicating the part.
Just to be clear, I would like to start with 1515021-1, the lens with the "wings" at the end. There is another version of the light dome that is flat all the way. I would later work on that one if I can also get a hold of one too. All I will do is take reference pictures and measurements from the borrowed part, nothing more. Once I get a good model and test print that is satisfactory, I will promptly return the part. It should take no more than a week. I included the two version images. |
I don't need one, but I'm pulling for you guys. I love it when a plan comes together.
Just watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZoIunC1Yk8 |
Same here! I'd put one in my parts stock if another were available.
|
I have a brand new version 2--the flat one. That is also the one I have installed in my plane. I don't have the one with the "wings" on the end.
The ends of the flat one are different--both have a curved piece but they are of different sizes and different radii. My plane is a normally aspirated 77G Kevin |

A HUGE THANKS TO DAN FOR SENDING ME THE PART TO REPLICATE!!!
ONE STEP CLOSER...now for the hard part...3D Print to resin cast. This part will take some time as I need to order some materials i.e epoxy resin, silicone mold stuff, etc.... I will try a couple of different opaque white colors to full transparency. I also added some extra material (not much) to where by looking at the part is a bit more fragile or where its more prone to crack. |
Very nice work!
|
I would like to grab one when they are available, thanks!

As soon I get a good mold done, I will make them available for everyone.
Im not going to charge and arm or leg for these dome lights, my whole purpose was to make one for my plane, but If I can help out others, Ill be glad to do so. What would be a fare price? I was thinking $30-40?. It would be nice just to recoup my expenses of buying the equipment (vacuum & chamber for degassing) and materials. (maybe I should get a list going?) Attached is the first 3d test print to verify measurements, etc...then I will get a clean part done for casting. Its Progress! |
I love to see this kind of ingenuity. I'll take one because, why not?

Progress Update

9/13/22 UPDATE:
So I test fitted the dome light before I start casting. The fitment was perfect. I have the silicone on hand, Im waiting for the UV resistant resin to come in. Keep in mind this is just a 3D test print using white PLA filament. I will experiment the castings to have the same translucent opaque offwhite as the original. Sorry for the missing panels...my plane is in the shop going through an avionics upgrade. Attachment 2776 |
You are quite the craftsman! Nice work!

Almost ready to take orders

Ill have a few of these dome lights ready to ship soon. I also tested a glossy look and a frosted look on a failed part to see if that is something people would like to choose. I also finally matched the same opaque white of the original. Curing time and post processing is what is taking so long for the part to be able to handle the interior temperatures of our birds.

I'm currently looking for a material solution... the 6 resin casts in the picture failed the heat deflection test. Basically the dome light will sag in the dead summer heat. I'm working on a PETG or ABS solution which both of those material can withstand upto a 200F during the summer heat.
Dome lights are coming soon, I promise. |
Thanks for your effort!

Im building up stock now...$60 Shipped
2 Attachment(s)
Everyone,
After awhile of looking for a suitable material, I found one and tested that it is capable upto 160F, and held its shape. I am sending out two of them today for evaluation. I also found a plastic company I might be working with to help with a higher production, since at the moment its just me. They are an off-white in color, and almost the same opacity to the original. The only question now is how much? To be honest, I would give them away, just because I love our planes so much, unfortunately it does take time and materials to make. I was looking in the range of $60 shipped. Send me a PM titled "DomeLight", if your interested in one, so I can get a list together to know how many to make. I have 8 right now ready to go, first come first serve. To Dan and Mark, please post your honest opinions when you get them. Thank You. Luis Attachment 2822 Attachment 2823 |
Thanks Luis, I'm looking forward to giving a full report!

If anyone needs the other part# 1515021-Version 2 of the dome light from my previous post, I'll need an original to make a CAD model from. If your willing to send me the part for me to copy, I will send it back along with a new part.
:) Luis |
Fits great, has the curvature of the original!

I have 9 of these dome lights in stock.
I do want to post and get a general idea on what would be a fair price of them. In time and materials I am about $20 or each dome light, and I cant do that to just break even.. So, I was thinking $40+shipping? Shipping would be via USPS 2-3 priority which is ~$10. The other question is, there a demand for these? I started this path to have one for my plane since it was completely missing, and figured others might also be missing theirs as well. Just a thought. |

I'm interested in the dome light lens; however, the parts catalog for my '77G specifies PN 170615-2.

I dont have the style yet, I am trying to see if someone would send me that lens style for me to duplicate in CAD. If yours is in ok shape for me to take measurements from, I can send you your original back, and a new one as a thank you. |
Unfortunately, my airplane is at a distant avionics shop; I was down there on Monday but don't plan on returning until several weeks. My airplane will go into annual in mid-Feb; if no one comes forward, I will send it to you.

We now are able to replace our dome lights. Left Side Lenses are Part# 170615-2 Right Side Lenses are Part# 151021-1 Attachment 2862 |
Do you guys want the autodesk fusion model and .stl files for these for free?
|
Great thinking! Im not sure if you're member of the “skymaster fans” fb group, but there is a section where you can upload files there. There are a lot of useful files there. I can also upload to owners group if you want. Jhogan0101@yahoo.com
